My mother-in-law and I threw an engagement party for my brother-in-law and his fiance this spring. I liked the idea of a nautical theme for their party. They both grew up on the beaches of Lake Michigan, so it seemed like the perfect fit! Pinterest provided me with the best ideas for a nautical party (see my inspiration board here). First off, the slogan, “Tying the Knot”. Like a sailor’s knot? The groom-to-be is a sailor. How perfect?! Another bonus? This was a great “gender-neutral” theme option. Navy hues, stripes, and anchors- perfect for guys and gals! Cheers to the happy couple!
Flowers: White & Blue Hydrangeas via Jewel / Vases: Dollar Tree / Candle Votives: Michael’s / Dinner Napkins: Party Value / Burlap Banners: Etsy (here and here) / Tiered Stands: Potterybarn / “Message In A Bottle” Decanter: Target / Anchor Signs: DIY (Michael’s scrapbook paper)
More Details: Guests received “Tying the Knot” invitations to the party (colors and wording are totally customizable!). The invites coordinate well with navy envelopes (via Office Depot). The couple also received a Honeymoon gift bag! A navy and white striped bag was filled with a beach towel, his & hers flip flops, a decorative sign, and a Visa gift card.
